About the Noir Series
Viewing the film noir paintings, we enter a dreamlike urban landscape of wet streets, alleys, hotel rooms and automobile interiors. Even the cars themselves are actors in the drama. Human figures are phantoms: harried, lurking, predatory, desperately fleeing or searching. The darkness is liquid and all pervasive.
We light our way through a narrowing maze immersed in inky blackness. Images appear and disappear. People come out of the dark and then return to it. This is a journey through the underworld. It is a search for truth inside a labyrinth of illusions.
